GOOD NEWS FOR MEN #4
A look at all the latest positive things happening for men and because of men.
Plenty of good stuff has been landing across our feeds in the last few weeks. Here’s some of the best bits we’ve seen.
1/ Men’s Health Strategy for England
The first ever Men’s Health strategy has been launched in the UK.
It coincided with International Men’s Day and includes teaming up with the Premier League.
This is huge news, as the government takes a holistic view to men’s health, tackling things like alcohol addiction, gambling, and suicide.
It’s a big statement of intent, and while the proof will be in the pudding in terms of results, it at least shows how the world is waking up to needing to do more around men’s health, and taking it more seriously.
Read a summary here from Sky News, or the official announcement from the government here.
2/ International Men’s Day
A special note here for IMD, that was celebrated on 19th November. The theme for this year? “Celebrating Men and Boys”.
It’s so good to see the conversation about men expanding out from only focusing on problems, but also to be celebrating what’s good about men. It touched on topics like positive male role models, family and community, and examples of positive masculinity.
3/ An honest conversation about prostate cancer and erectile dysfunction
Kenny Logan, a former Scottish rugby player, was featured in a lengthy Sun article, discussing his prostate cancer journey, and the impact that it had on his sex life. It’s a powerful piece and one that pulls back the lid on a topic which is often kept in the shadows.
Neglection of health and the shame around sex are two huge topics around men that need more focus, and this article does a brilliant job of tackling both.
4/ More positive male role models
Model David Gandy was recently on Sky News, talking about the need for a better narrative about good men, and pushing back on “immature” and “disruptive” ideas of masculinity that are touted by some influencers.
David could arguably be seen as the classic archetypal male - handsome, a brooding look, successful, wealthy. So it’s really powerful when men who fit this one view of men speak out about a more expanded, holistic version of it.
5/ Launch of new platforms and communities for men
Several services for men have launched or gained exposure in recent weeks, including Men’s Counselling Service in Doncaster and Menfulness in Yorkshire.
Things are happening. The noise is getting loud. Men are getting the support they need.
Let’s keep beating this drum.
A snapshot there of some of the biggest stories happening around masculinity in the last few weeks.

I found recently this YouTube video from Simon Squibb …this conversation with Professor Scott Galloway, we explore why young men are struggling more than ever; socially, economically, and emotionally, and what’s driving this silent crisis. ……https://youtu.be/pcZQYMneGak?si=43ZEGPOxFxlkaAEe I don’t agree with all but I do like the fact men are talking about men and especially how to support or mentor young men.
